Some days ago, after the reveal of the Witcher 3 remakes, as well as the new FREE DLC, I found myself in the dire need of reinstalling The Witcher 3 (thought Steam) on my Gentoo Linux Desktop.
To my horror, while playing the screen was flickering like a mofo. After some trials and error I found out the following: setting the resolution back to 1920x1080, did fix the flickering (at the expense of a looking at a Van Gogh gouache on my 34" Dell Gaming Screen (S3422DWG))
FreeSync
I found out online at multiple occurse that "AMD FreeSync" was an issue for some people. After trying this out, it felt slightly better, but still not up to my memories of the game.
Sway + Wayland
In the meantime, I have updated my sway (and therefore wlroots) install to the latest git commit. It could be that some of
the recent commit on wlroots have worked a lot on colour render
for vulkan, which is might also have fix some of the flickering.
So far my OS stand at:
$ sway -v
> Sway 1.12, wlroots 0.20.2
